Physical Education

Chorley School Sport Partnership has developed an innovative and extensive programme designed to support schools in developing both teachers and learners by providing high quality opportunities through specialist teachers and coaches delivering across the national curriculum areas; 

  • Athletics  
  • Dance  
  • Games (invasion, net and wall and striking and fielding)  
  • Gymnastics  
  • Outdoor Adventure Activities  

The team of PE and Sport specialists are deployed to schools for half a day or a full day, delivering curriculum PE lessons and extra curricula activities. Utilising specialist staff maximises the benefits to both teaching staff and young people in developing skills, confidence and competence.

Teaching / Coaching Service
Schools can expect;

  • Fully qualified and highly trained staff, including PE teachers and specialist coaches.
  • CSSP staff to adhere to Lancashire / AfPE guidelines and use resources including Lancashire’s scheme of  work and assessment processes.
  • Specialist PE support to help plan the curriculum map and arrange all delivery.
  • Delivery of a progression of work units across all year groups, including mixed classes.
  • The assessment of the young people using the core tasks.
  • Team teaching with School Staff to develop their knowledge and confidence in the delivery of PE, a convenient and meaningful way to provide staff with excellent Professional Development.
  • The delivery of extra-curricular activities before, during and after school. This can be sport specific training for competitions or health related activities for fun.

Additional Offer
We also offer PPA cover for schools, leading in the classroom, taking registration and dismissing pupils if required. Chorley SSP Staff become part of your school and after an induction will undertake any duties required as part of the PPA time. Cover is also supplied when a member of staff is absent.

PE Coordinator / Lead Support
We give individual support to your PE Coordinator, specialist advice and support to help your school keep up to date on national strategy and requirements including:

  • To provide PE Subject leaders with district wide network, training, CDP & support.
  • 1:1 support meetings for action planning, organising PE, Sport and Health Programmes and delivery.
  • Assist with national reporting and monitoring.
  • Provide an annual School & Governors Report.
  • Support PE applications and awards.
  • Access to Chorley SSP website.
  • Half termly updates / newsletter.
  • Advice support and advocacy with senior leadership teams and governors.

Staff Qualifications
All Partnership staff are expected to meet the national minimum operating standards for sports coaches and staff;

  • Minimum of a UKCC Level 2 in chosen Sport
  • DBS Clearance
  • Disqualification by Association Clearance.
  • First Aid
  • Safeguarding, Disability Awareness and Equity from SportsCoach UK
  • Fully Insured

  • Level 1 in other curriculum areas
  • AfPE Health & Safety

We provide good quality staff, and all the team undergo regular quality assurance process through peer to peer and manager observations, lesson plan scrutiny and performance management. Delivery is expected to be good to outstanding level against the OFSTED criteria.
