Our Culture Offer

Culture_OfferChorley SSP’s cultural offer supports other areas of the curriculum outside the core subjects. Specialist subjects such as modern foreign languages, art, drama & music along with introducing non-sporting competitions to engage as many young people as possible to link with PE and School Sport.

We have had a MFL teacher work in the team for 4 years, delivering French and Spanish to KS1 and 2 beyond the national curriculum expectations. As in our PE lessons, having a specialist teacher in Primary School significantly improves staff confidence, knowledge & skills as well as helping young people become confident and engaged learners, thus raising standards in attainment and achievement.

“ It is so important for children to learn about different cultures from the earliest age possible, and the delivery of all aspects is inspiring and has considerable impact.”
Mr W. Headteacher

As part of the School Games cultural component, we devised 3 competitions rolled out across Lancashire for young people to design a flag, write a pledge and take a great action photograph. Classroom based lessons are provided for Y5/6 children to celebrate cultural links with Sport, promote British values (ethics & morals) and explain how they are involved in Sport. These classroom sessions are also used to promote learning and engagement.

Other non-sporting activities involve working with external partners. We delivered singing training to Music Coordinators, which evolved into establishing a Chorley Young People Choir and hosting a singing competition as part of our ever-growing competition calendar.

This area of work is rapidly developing, we look into everything and anything that is active to help us make our young people less sedentary and more engaged in activity.
