Gemma Stokes

Managing Director

My lifelong mission has been to transform the landscape of PE and Sport, inspiring all to embrace physical activity and a healthy lifestyle as a standard. I am deeply proud of the journey of Chorley SSP, rooted in the community and strongly connected with the people and schools we serve.

I love sports and have a very competitive spirit! While my days of competing are behind me, I am wholeheartedly committed to supporting everyone in their endeavours to excel and improve.

Daneka Rothwell

Director & Head of PE

As a seasoned PE teacher my goal is to boost children’s physical and mental wellbeing through engaging PE lessons and events. I take great pleasure in aiding children to reach their potential and bolster their confidence. A netball fan, I still actively participate in the sport and take pride in co-founding the Chorley Inferno Netball Club. Above all, I treasure the moments spent with my family and friends.

Micaela Brindle

Bikeability and Competition Manager

Show Bio

I manage and deliver an annual calendar of school sport competitions and the bikeability programme across all our schools. I take immense satisfaction in positively impacting children’s lives and nurturing their passion for sports, drawing from my own experiences as a former international athlete. When I’m not working, I love baking and outdoor adventures, especially those that involve a picnic!

James McVittie

PE & Sport Project Manager

I oversee a variety of projects, including competitions, assessments and our ITC system and processes, while also nurturing school relationships. My family is my ultimate passion followed by sport, I actively participate in football and cricket. The most rewarding aspect of my work is making a positive difference in children’s lives and cultivating their enthusiasm for physical education.

Madame Melanie Russell

Modern Foreign Language Specialist

Bonjour! I oversee French education, delivering engaging lessons to inspire a passion for languages and build confidence. I collaborate with MFL Leaders to monitor, develop, and extend the reach of the French language. My diverse past includes roles in hospitality, administration, debt recovery, and education. I am a travel enthusiast; I’ve explored 25 countries and enjoy escaping into Jessica Nabongo’s travelogue.

Emma Battye

Administration and Finance Officer

Show Bio

My responsibilities involve managing daily financial transactions, procuring supplies and office equipment, and providing administrative support to the Director and the team. I organise the annual PE and Sports Awards ceremony, I enjoy getting out of the office occasionally to assist at events, where I’m typically involved in handling results or registration.

Rob Wilson

Lead Bike Instructor & Sports Coach; Basketball Specialist

Show Bio

As a dedicated instructor and coach, I aim to positively impact on children’s lives. I enjoy distance running and dance music, reflecting my love for energetic activities. I aspire to be a music producer and DJ, hoping to spread joy. Advice I live by from my Year 6 teacher is “never stop playing sport…nurture your talents and follow your passions”.

Gary Grimshaw Brown

School Sport Coach and Health & Fitness Coordinator

With 20 years of fitness industry experience, I bring health and fitness education to schools. I coordinate health and P.A.S.T.A programmes, deliver engaging fitness sessions, and promote healthy lifestyles among children. My background includes managing health clubs, personal training, teaching exercise classes and working in football academies. My goal is to empower children to lead healthy, active lives.

Alex Brown

School Sport Coach, Dance Specialist

I teach as part of a dynamic dance team and lead the primary dance stars programme. With a background as a professional dancer, I’ve performed globally, including in a music video with 1.2 billion views. Renowned for my conscientiousness, enthusiasm, and passion, I aspire to broaden dance coaching and choreograph larger events, infusing high-quality lessons with a fresh perspective.

Paul Topham

Lead Bikeability Instructor

Show Bio

I co lead our bike team in delivering various Bikeability modules. I take pride in my shift from an 18-year retail career to a role I’m passionate about. As a professional singer with performances at Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom and experience at Butlins, I bring a unique perspective. As a type 1 diabetic, I champion sports as a key tool for managing the condition.

Jennifer Milner

Bike Instructor & Lead for Holiday Camps and Girls Football

Show Bio

I deliver Bikeability training and after-school clubs and locally I spearhead the national initiative to ensure equal opportunities for girls in football and oversee our holiday camps. What motivates me is witnessing children surpass their own expectations. Outside of work, I enjoy playing rugby union and taking my two dogs for walks.

Dani Walker

School Games Coordinator & Dance Lead

Show Bio

I organise festivals and competitions for young people across Chorley, aiming to tackle inequalities and boost participation. Working with our dance team, we provide comprehensive dance education and host competitions, with the Lancashire Dance Finals as a yearly highlight. My passion is in orchestrating dance events, from the planning stages to the exhilarating buzz of backstage on performance day.

Lily Fothergill

Schools Sports Coach, Dance Specialist

Show Bio

In my diverse role, I coach various sports, assess physical education attainment and teach dance at Jay Em Studios, I love my days are never the same. My unique background includes a degree in Special Effects makeup and a season in Lapland, creating magic for Santa and his elves. I thrive in this dynamic setting, enriching the lives of both children and adults with my skills.

School Sports Coach & Bike Instructor, Cricket & Football Specialist

Show Bio

I have always been an avid sports performer representing Chorley in football and cricket, I strive to inspire future generations through my work at CSSP. I also serve as a youth worker, often found in sports areas. I’m also a lifelong Stoke City fan, I’ve held a season ticket since age 7.

Kieran Sherlock

Trainee Bike Instructor & Sports Coach

Show Bio

As a semi-professional footballer with Padiham FC, I’m aiming for promotion this season. I’ve also taken up marathon running, having completed races in Manchester and Paris and I’m training to complete Valencia marathon in under three hours this December. I’m committed to inspiring children to achieve their utmost potential in sports.
