Breaking Barriers Festival Yr1&2 ⚡️

 

Get ready to move, score, and shine at the Breaking Barriers Festival! This event is all about building social skills, trying new activities, and creating a strong sense of belonging. Pupils will have the chance to experience a variety of activities, including rugby, football and dance. It’s not just about sport; it’s an opportunity to build confidence, connect with others, and celebrate personal achievements in a fun, no stigma environment. Come join us and find your team spirit!

Objective: To increase confidence, engagement, and physical activity levels among pupils who participate less regularly in sports, using a variety of activities to promote teamwork, skill development

Intent: Improve knowledge and understanding of sport and physical activity

Target Audience: Each school is invited to nominate mixed-gender teams of 10 pupils from Yr1&2, particularly those who participate less regularly in sports but are confident and eager to try something new.

Please select pupils who:

  • Do not regularly participate in extracurricular sports or physical activities.
  • Possess good personal confidence and an enthusiasm for trying new sports.
  • Are capable of working in a group.
  • Will represent the school in a mature and respectful manner.
  • Are willing to engage in new activities and support their peers.

Event Format:

  • Pupils will rotate through a series of interactive, adaptive stations featuring rugby drills, football skills, dance workshops, and multi-sports challenges.
  • Activities focus on fundamental movements, teamwork, rhythm, and basic ball handling in a fun, low-pressure setting.
  • Each station is tailored to ensure full participation and enjoyment for all ability levels.
  • All necessary equipment will be provided.

Logistics:

  • Pupils should arrive in comfortable clothing (or school PE kit) and trainers.
  • Schools are responsible for their own transport and supervision.
  • Water only – No juice or energy drinks

Key Outcomes:

  • Improved social skills and connections, fostering a sense of belonging and teamwork.
  • Increased confidence and engagement in physical activity.
  • An enjoyable and memorable sporting experience for all participants.
