Thrills and Spills at Balance Bike Festival

The first ever Chorley SSP Balance Bike Festival took place on Friday 9th February at Clayton Green Sports Centre, supported by British Cycling. Fifteen school teams of 6 Reception children took part across morning and afternoon sessions. You can watch a highlights video from the afternoon session here

In the morning, the team results were:

7th Heskin Pemberton's

6th All Saints

5th Brinscall St John's

4th Anderton St Joseph's

3rd St Laurence's

2nd Euxton Primrose Hill

1st Euxton Balshaw Lane

In the subsequent afternoon session, the teams finished as follows:

8th Adlington Primary

7th Manor Road

6th St Gregory's

5th Buckshaw Primary

4th Trinity and St Michael's

3rd Euxton C of E

2nd St James

1st Eccleston St Mary's

The event format saw a set of initial heats with one competitor per team in each heat. The fastest 2 in each heat qualified directly for the Semi-Finals, while the remaining riders went into one of 3 Repechage heats, with the top 4 from each Repechage joining those already qualified on the Semi Final start lines. The children all did themselves and their schools great credit, with hard but fair racing and many examples of competitors crashing and picking themselves up to battle back through the field.

Thanks to all the children and teachers for taking part in such a positive way, and to British Cycling for supporting the event.
